We fell in love with Prague harder and deeper than we ever could have imagined, and here are a few of our favorite moments from our time there we can’t wait to relive when we go back.
Watching the sunrise on Charles Bridge
We woke up early in the morning and made our way to Charles Bridge as the sun rose. There were hardly any people on the streets or on the bridge. All we could hear was the soft trickle of the Vltava River running underneath us. Watching the sunlight dance across the statues and city skyline behind us was so calming that we felt like we had the whole city to ourselves. It was the perfect way to start our first full day in Prague, and one I’ll never forget.
Getting lost in Old Town
We spent our second day getting lost in the Old Town. We walked cobblestone streets and stumbled upon secret garden-style courtyards. We never would have discovered these if we didn’t veer off the normal tourist path. Best of all was getting lost and finding a quaint café to stop at for our first legit Czech coffee. It really felt like the city was opening up its arms and embracing us.
Savoring Trdelník in Old Town Square
We simply couldn’t visit Prague and not try their world-famous Trdelník pastry. Strolling through Old Town Square, we stumbled upon a vendor that made the sweet, cinnamon treat right in front of us. It was warm, crispy and sweet and just what we needed while wandering around, people watching, and taking in the bustling square. It was simple, just sugar and dough, yet one of the sweetest moments of our trip.
Stumbling upon a hidden garden at Prague Castle
When we visited Prague Castle, we ventured a little off the beaten path and checked out a cute side garden. It was serene and quiet. There were flowers blossoming and an amazing view of the city. We sat on a bench taking everything in. It was a nice reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the main castle grounds. It also made us stop and appreciate how lucky we are to be in such a gorgeous place.
Watching the Astronomical Clock chime
Everyone back home had told us how we just had to see the Astronomical Clock, but we weren’t prepared for how enchanted we would be when we actually saw it. We watched it there in the square, right beside other tourists as if we were part of the city ourselves. It struck; the tiny figures started moving and danced around. There was magic in that moment, surrounded by laughing Czechs and tourists alike.
Sharing a quiet moment at Letná Park
Letná Park was our little secret retreat in town. After strolling through the Old Town, we caught a tram to Letná and were greeted by a beautiful view of Prague. The park was calm, large, and green, and a good place to sit and stare at the city skyline. We stayed for about two hours talking, laughing and enjoying the scenery.
Taking a boat ride on the Vltava River
One afternoon we rented a boat to cruise down the Vltava River. Floating past historic Prague Castle, as well as the countless bridges, was like seeing the city from a whole new perspective. The light breeze, sound of the water, and amazing views made for one of the most relaxing and romantic moments of our trip.
Enjoying a quiet dinner at a local Trattoria
One night, we strayed from the tourist districts and found a small trattoria on a side street. The meal was simple but excellent: pasta with local ingredients. The owner was very friendly and we spent the evening with him talking about Prague and our journey. It wasn’t just a meal. It was an experience that made us feel part of the city, not just one other visitor.
Getting lost in the streets of Malá Strana
Malá Strana (Lesser Town) was another favourite spot in Prague for us. The smaller streets were beautiful and winding. Cobblestone alleyways took us through fairy tale like buildings. We didn’t have an exact plan or route; we just stumbled through the streets. At one point we found ourselves at a cute café enjoying what was up until that point the best hot chocolate I had ever had.
Experiencing Prague at night
Prague at night has its own special magic. The city takes on a romantic glow, especially as the lights reflect off the river. We went on a late-night walk down the Vltava, and everything from the illuminated Charles Bridge to Prague Castle was just so beautiful in the low light. It was the perfect way to finish an adventurous day.
